Jamie Campbell's Class 7s Ranger Veteran racer and fabricator Jamie Campbell has built one sweet Class
7s Ford Ranger. Jamie's race truck is an 87 chassis with a cab from the
same year. The truck features glass from Perry's Fab 'n' Fiber, including
the 98-00 front clip update. The front suspension conforms to 7s rules;
stock I-beams and radius arms (plated and gusseted) with heims and uniballs.
Cone hubs and spindles complete the package. The truck pulls a clean 12"
of travel out front. In the rear, Campbell has a set of race prepped Deaver
springs pulling 16" of travel. King race series bypass shocks control
the dampening all around. He has a 40 spline Cone 9" rear end, geared
at 5:67. Depending on the course, Campbell will change the ratio anywhere
from 5:13 up to 7:00. The truck has a 3 speed C4 tranny, with a 3,000
RPM stall converter. Jamie just built a new aluminum dash, and will be
modifying the pitman arm to accept a ram assist sterring set up from Howe.
New 4130 chromoly tie rods are also on the way. As you can see in the
photos, there is no engine in the truck at the moment. The truck hasn't
raced since last year's Henderson, NV race where Jamie blew the engine.
As this article is being written, a brand new Fat performace 4.0 liter
ford engine, stroked to 4240cc is in the works. The pistons are being
hard anodized to reduce friction and heat as well. Campbell also plans
to try a carburetor set up on the new engine. Jamie would like to thank
all his sponsors, especially George Rosenbaum of Mission Electric, the
guys at Deaver Spring, Goodyear Tires, and Penhall fabrication. |
