Herman Motorsports Trophy Truck

The Herman Motorsports Trophy Truck, piloted by Damen and Casey Jeffries, has earned itself a winning reputation throughout the offroad community. This reputation has come at no easy cost-- The Herman Truck owes it's reputation to the hard work and endless race preperation performed by the crew, including the Driver and Co-Driver, and the precision engineering of Porter Race Cars. The silver bodied machine is an homage to modern offroad racing technology. It's balanced 5,000lbs of steel, aluminum and carbon fiber roar across the desert with a seemingly simplistic, fluid motion.

The shop is located adjacent to the home of the driving team-- another testament to the dedication these men have to the sport. I was able watch them undergo the final prep for their last testing session. With the body off the truck, and the sheetmetal 'skin' removed, I was able to appreciate the superb craftsmanship and fine attention to detail.

The chassis is a TIG welded 4130 Chromoly monument to racing technology, with a wheelbase of 125" and a track width of 92", built by Porter Race Cars of Riverside, CA. The center mounted A-arm front suspension and live axle four link rear suspension provide 24" and 32" of travel, respectively. The massive amount of travel is dampened by a set of King Shocks on each corner, one progressive coil-over and another multiple stage bypass. The heart of this beast is the aluminum block 412 cubic inch Ford SVO small block v8, which puts out over 750 horsepower and 620 ft.-lbs. of torque. A unique component of the drivetrain is the Cassale V-Drive, which allows for the truck's mid-engine placement. The meeting place of the raw horsepower and the dirt is the BF Goodrich 37x12.5" Baja Project tires, mounted on custom 17" diameter beadlocked wheels. Steering is controlled by a power "saginaw" to a custom slider, Braking via large CNC disk brakes. The fuel capacity is 75 gallons. With a dry weight of 5,250lbs. this Trophy Truck will commonly reach speeds of over 130MPH in the desert.
