Will Higman's Class 10 by Kreger Fabrication
by Micheal Flores
Not too long ago, I had the distinct pleasure of camping out with Will
Higman and a couple other Pedos Viejos cronies out in Lucerne Valley,
CA. Ostensibly, the trip was for a hard hitting shakedown run of the newest
addition to the Pedos Viejos racing team, The Kreger built, Honda powered,
class 10; code-named "The Croc". What we really showed up out
there for was bench racing, a 110 octane induced campfire, sizzling rib-eyes,
and some fun out in that place we collectively refer to as "the desert".
The Goods
The Croc is the newest chassis to come out of Derek Kreger's Orange, CA
shop. Meticulously crafted out of 4130 chrome-moly steel, this chassis
is not meant to simply be a class 1 with a limited engine... it's engineered
to be a lightweight buggy with enough strength to give baja a beating.
Other cars in the class will have a tough time wrestling this croc, with
its Adam Wiks built Honda power plant and Mendeola 5-speed transaxle.
Kreger 934 rear floaters, Kreger front hubs, Wilwood brakes, King shocks,
and a Howe Power Rack keep the wheels spinning, on the ground, and pointed
in the right direction, and the ability to stop before plowing into slower
cars and unsuspecting cameramen.
Look Closer
What really makes this car stand out from the rest of the pack is its
style. Featuring a custom body by Trailer Products and the signature Kreger
rounded roof, along with Yamaha Raptor 'eyes', the vehicle certainly appears
reptilian in nature. But it still wouldn't be The Croc without the hand
airbrushed scales laid down by Huntington Beach Body Works. Photographs
don't do this paint scheme justice. Pro Wire did such an incredible job
with the wiring on this car, you might think it was done to win some street
rod show rather than to endure the dusty SCORE circuit.
Piloted by the father/son duo of Jerry and Will Higman.
