Bloodied but not beaten Andy McMillin finishes SCORE Baja 500

Andy McMillin battled through mechanical failures to finish The SCORE Baja 500. Andy ran upfront with the race leaders until mechanical issues slowed him down. After loosing his brakes near race mile 230, Andy had to slow his pace to keep the McMillin Red Bull Trophy Truck on course. Once the brakes were repaired, Andy was again temporarily stopped by transmission failure. Andy crossed the line at just after 1:00am with a official time of 15:03.38. Andy finished just before famed motorcycle builder, Jesse James. The pair swapped stories about their trials and tribulations during the race beneath the Red Bull arches at the finish.

Andy's father, Scott McMillin, drove the McMillin Red Bull Trophy Truck during the first part of the race to mile 186 where Andy got in to finish the remaining 234 miles. " I felt confident when I got into the truck, my dad had gained a couple of positions. I felt that we could win. The truck ran well and I started reeling in the guys in front of me. I passed two trucks and caught Pflueger and was starting to pass when my brakes went out. That slowed me down a lot. At every corner I felt like I was going to go off the course," stated Andy. " At that point I felt like we still had a shot at a top 5 finish but then we lost our transmission just past Erendira. I knew we were out of the top ten, but I wanted to finish. It took us a few hours to change the transmission and then we were able to finish. It was a long day, but we didn't give up. We got the finish."

Andy's uncle, Mark McMillin, and his cousin, Daniel McMillin, also dealt with mechanical issues. Mark was unable to fix his vehicle but Daniel was able to make repairs and finally cross the finish line in the early morning hours just within the 20 hour time limit.
